People who identify as LGBTTQQIA* (LGBT) in many countries around the world are denied basic human rights and face imprisonment or even death. Many of these individuals try to obtain refuge in safe countries, including Canada. Reaching Out Winnipeg (ROW) is a group of individuals in Winnipeg supporting these LGBT refugees and asylum seekers from around the world.
ChangeMakers began to work with ROW to promote refugee sponsorship and raise awareness about this issue. We developed a name for the group, designed the logo and have developed all materials for the organization. ChangeMakers is assisting ROW to increase awareness and support for its work and increase opportunities for ROW to assist refugees.
ROW has helped to support resettlement for seven individuals to Winnipeg with another planned to arrive in 2016.
Joel Voth, our Director of Marketing, is one of ROW’s founding members and sits on the organization’s steering committee.
