Water Drum Foods, a bold new initiative founded by Manitoba Building Trades, will be an urban aquaponic greenhouse, café and learning space located on Selkirk Avenue in Winnipeg’s historic north end. The proposed facility will be the first large-scale urban aquaponic facility in Winnipeg combining aquaculture (raising fish in water drums) and hydroponics (growing plants and produce in water) to create a cyclical, sustainable environment which promotes growth and production.
This unique partnership between labour, business, government and school divisions creates opportunities for sustainable economic growth and new employment opportunities for Aboriginal students in the inner city.
ChangeMakers has donated communications and marketing design and support to the project since its inception in the spring of 2015.
